I first tried food prepared by chef Patrick Garland at the recent regional championships for Canada’s Great Kitchen Party. His scallop creation was one of my preferred dishes of the evening and I made the decision then to finally visit his restaurant Absinthe.

It’s a warm-feeling room and some may find it dated but when it comes to bistros, I have a preference for spaces that feel traditional as out of some collective imagination.

I arrived for a late lunch and was able to enjoy dishes from both their happy hour and lunch menus.
