Review: Authentic Vietnamese Pho House

Go for the pho broth

Vietnamese cuisine competition is certainly alive and well in Kanata as you'll experience when you visit Authentic Vietnamese Pho House at their original location at 5373 Fernbank Rd.

Once again the broths have very nice extraction without an excess of MSG and they take good care in their Pho presentation as you can see.

The only disappointment here was that the rice noodles very quickly absorbed the broth, turning my soup into something less appetizing. I removed the bulk of the noodles to a side plate and when my server saw this said “We can always bring you more broth for the noodles.” I declined but how wonderful that, entirely unbidden, she was offering a solution I didn't know was an option.

Their Imperial Rolls step it up a little by adding actual crab to the shrimp and pork recipe and they are very nice but a few dollars more than at most other Vietnamese restaurants. For my money, and a little less expensive, the Imperial Rolls at Chez Lam are just as pleasant.

Another classic seldom seen in many Pho houses is grilled quail. Here they are served with a spicy lemon pepper sauce and they are worth getting your gums around.
