Gibson’s Finest Bold 8 Year Old is another surprise Canadian whisky that over-delivers. In fact for $35, it’s an outright bargain. For those who enjoy long drinks with either cola or ginger ale, this is one of the most flavourful blends that stands up to both the sugars and flavours.
I couldn’t find a published mash bill for this drink but as it’s a blend, we can assume corn and barley in the mix. From the nose, I also get a peppery top note of rye.
This whisky shimmers with a gorgeous amber hue. At an extra 46% alcohol, the aromas leap out of the glass.
Flavours and aromas of dried fruit, vanilla and spice make you think of cooler weather, so keep one on hand for the fall.
There’s a modicum of sweetness of raw sugar to balance the moderate oak and the peppery long finish.
A value-priced whiskey that also works like a charm as a Manhattan cocktail.
