A German herbal liqueur at a reasonable price

Jagermeister Cold Brew Review

Jagermeister Cold Brew | Germany | LCBO Code # 14404 | $24.85 | 750 ml 35% alc.

Ordinarily I keep these reviews for the Thursday editions — you can become a member here — but I stumbled upon this deep discount on a German classic and I just had to share. Ordinarily Jagermeister Cold Brew comes in at over $35 but is currently available at the Trainyards LCBO for under $25.

Jagermeister is an herbal liqueur classified as a digestive. Over the decades however it’s been marketed as a nightclub drink often as a cold shot or as a chaser to beer. There are hundreds of such herbal liqueurs produced throughout Germany but this is the most famous.

This version has the addition of coffee and dark cocoa which lends it a deeper toasted character with a little more bitterness on the finish. If you are using it as a beer chaser, try it with a dark lager or a Dunkelweizen (a dark wheat beer). Of course feel free to use it as it was intended, as a digestive after an Oktoberfest feast of baked pork hock with red spiced cabbage and dumplings.

There are currently 140 bottles in the Ottawa market but please check ahead as not all stores may have this deeply discounted price.
